Michelle Cheng is an Administrator of “Texas Lawyers” Group, and practices medical malpractice and personal injury law as a partner with Whitehurst, Harkness, Brees, Cheng, Alsaffar, Higginbotham, and Jacob, PLLC, in Austin, Texas. An electrical engineer and graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, Ms. Cheng has been named a Texas Super Lawyer (2009 – 2018) and a Texas Rising Star (2004 – 2006) by Thomson Reuters. She has been named a Pathfinder by the Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association and was awarded Outstanding Young Lawyer of Austin (back when she was a young lawyer).
She has been involved in bar leadership at local and state levels. Ms. Cheng has served on the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas; on the Texas Access to Justice Commission (where she was Chair of the Technology Committee); as Chair of a State Bar Grievance Committee; on the Board of Editors for the Texas Bar Journal; and on the State Bar Web Services Committee, where she is a past Chair. Locally, she sat on the Board of Directors of the Austin Bar Association, receiving their Outstanding Director award and their Outstanding Committee Chair Award; on the Board of the Austin Bar Foundation; on the Board of Directors of the Austin Young Lawyers Association, where she received their Outstanding Director Award; on the Board of Directors for the Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association; on the Advisory Board of the Capital Area AIDS Legal Project; and on the Council for the Austin Asian-American Bar Association.
